I remembered that if a lunar eclipse occurs too close to either sunrise or sunset that the sky itself ends up becoming brighter than the Moon. So the Moon ends up just disappearing from view. However, I did not remember this before waking up at 4:30am and driving an hour to line up the shot over a lone tree in the distance. It occurred to me just as I was getting there.
But all in all I’d say I made the best of it. And as an added bonus, at least I know that my planning skills are on point. Parked right at the spot I needed to line up the shot, even if it didn’t turn out quite as planned.
